WooDonkey Product Add-Ons lets you add extra options and priced fields to WooCommerce products. Shoppers fill those fields on your store, before Add to Cart. You create and edit the groups in your WooDonkey dashboard. WooDonkey is the platform, not the store.
What it is
Product Add-Ons lives in your WooDonkey dashboard at app.woodonkey.com, under Advanced Tools, then Add-Ons. The page title is Add-Ons. The subtitle is Add extra options and fields to your products, with optional pricing. This screen has no tabs. You see a New group button, a Display style panel, and the list of groups.
Group settings are stored in WooDonkey and pushed to the store through the companion plugin. Shoppers never open WooDonkey. They see the fields on the WooCommerce product page, pay in the WooCommerce cart, and their answers land on the WooCommerce order. There is no shortcode. The companion plugin prints the fields before the Add to Cart button. Files the shopper uploads stay on your WordPress store, not in WooDonkey cloud.
How it helps you
You sell extras on products you already have, without a separate checkout and without another WordPress options plugin. Gift wrap, engraving, a linked extra product, or a file the customer must attach all sit on the same product page. Shoppers pick those options, see Original Price and Total Price update, and pay in the cart they already use. You read their choices on the WooCommerce order, and you can download uploaded files from that order after Companion 1.361.0.
What is included
Product Add-Ons includes these capabilities:
- Add-Ons screen: One page under Advanced Tools. No tabs. Empty state text is No add-on groups yet.
- New group: Opens an inline editor. Group name (admin) is required to Save. Heading (shown to customers), Description, Priority (default 10), and Enabled (on by default).
- Where it shows: Apply to All products, or Specific products / categories. Match by Specific products, Categories, Tags, or another product taxonomy from the store (brands and attributes appear if the store has them). Exclusions (optional) with Add exclusion.
- Fields: Add field. Eleven types: Checkbox, Multiple checkboxes, Radio buttons, Dropdown, Tag buttons, Color tags, Text, Text area, Number, File upload, Product. Each field has Field label, Help text (optional), and Required.
- Checkbox: One yes/no box on the product. Optional field price.
- Multiple checkboxes: Several options, shopper can pick more than one. Price is set per option.
- Radio buttons: One choice from a list. Price is set per option.
- Dropdown: A select list. First storefront option is Choose an option… Price is set per option.
- Tag buttons: Tappable tags. Single choice or Multiple choice, Tags per row, Tag bg, Tag text, Selected bg, Selected text. Price is set per option.
- Color tags: Empty color swatches. Swatch color plus Name (optional, for cart). Single choice or Multiple choice, Tags per row. Price is set per option.
- Text and Text area: Free text. Placeholder, Max length, optional field price.
- Number: A number input. Min, Max, Step, optional field price.
- File upload: Shopper drops or clicks to choose a file. Allowed types e.g. jpg, pdf, Max MB (default 5), Max files (default 1). This type has no price control. Storefront hint is Drag a file here, or click to choose.
- Product: Products to add to the cart. Each linked product is its own cart line, with No discount, Percent off, or Amount off. Add product adds another linked product. Variable products cannot be added as an add-on. Pick a simple product.
- Pricing modes (on priced fields and on choice options): Free, Fixed amount, Percent of price, Per quantity, One-time fee, Multiply price. Fixed amount and Per quantity both add the same amount per product unit. One-time fee is charged once even if quantity is more than 1. Multiply price multiplies the product price by the number you enter.
- Field order: Move up and Move down in the editor. That order is what the store uses after Save.
- Display style: Group background (default #ffffff), Text color (Auto when empty), Corner radius (px) from 0 to 100 (default 12), Live preview. This style applies to every group on the store.
- Group list actions: Edit, Duplicate (title gets (copy)), Delete, and an Enable switch. Disabled groups show a Disabled badge and do not appear on the store.
- Storefront: Fields before Add to Cart. Original Price and Total Price update as the shopper chooses. Selections appear in the cart and on the order.
- File download: On the WooCommerce order, Companion 1.361.0 or higher shows a Download link next to the original filename.
- Companion plugin: Required for anything to show on the store. There is no Add-Ons shortcode.
How to turn on and manage each capability
Open Add-Ons
- Log in to app.woodonkey.com.
- In the sidebar, click Advanced Tools.
- Click Add-Ons.
Companion plugin
- Install and activate the WooDonkey Companion plugin on the WooCommerce store. See The WooDonkey companion plugin.
- For file Download on the order, live One-time fee math when quantity is more than 1, and skipping variable products as add-ons, use Companion 1.361.0 or higher. In WooDonkey, open store settings and update the companion if an update is available.
- If the standalone plugin named WooDonkey Smart Add-Ons is still active on WordPress, turn it off. Native Add-Ons stand down while that plugin is active, so the dashboard groups will not render.
Display style
- On Add-Ons, click Display style so the label reads Hide.
- Set Group background.
- Set Text color, or click Auto to clear it and inherit.
- Set Corner radius (px) between 0 and 100.
- Check Live preview. That preview is a sample only. It is not your live product.
- Do not look for a Save button here. Display style saves automatically. The page shows Saving… then All changes saved.
Create a group
- Click New group. An inline card titled New group opens at the top of the list.
- Fill Group name (admin) *. This name is for you. Save stays disabled until this field has text.
- Fill Heading (shown to customers) if you want a heading on the product page. If you leave it empty, the store shows no group heading.
- Fill Description if you want a line of copy under the heading.
- Set Priority. Default is 10. Lower numbers show first when more than one group matches the same product.
- Leave Enabled on, or turn it off to keep the group off the store.
- Click Save to keep the group. Click Cancel to close without saving field edits.
Where it shows
- Open the group (click the name, or the Edit icon).
- Under Where it shows, set Apply to:
- All products (default for a new group).
- Specific products / categories, then set Match by in the next step.
- If you chose Specific products / categories, pick Match by:
- Specific products, then Search products…
- Categories, then Categories…
- Tags, then Tags…
- Or another taxonomy listed from your store (for example a brand). Then Search terms…
- Optional: click Add exclusion. Pick Specific products, Categories, Tags, or another taxonomy, then the values to skip. Use Remove to drop an exclusion row.
- Click Save.
Add and edit fields
- Open the group.
- Under Fields, click Add field. A new field starts as Checkbox, Free, not Required, with no Field label (it shows Untitled field until you type one).
- Click the field row to expand it if it is collapsed.
- Pick the type from the dropdown: Checkbox, Multiple checkboxes, Radio buttons, Dropdown, Tag buttons, Color tags, Text, Text area, Number, File upload, or Product.
- Type the Field label shoppers will see.
- Turn Required on if Add to Cart must wait for an answer. The store shows * on that label. An empty required field blocks add to cart with “{label} is required.”
- Type Help text (optional) if you want extra copy under the field.
- Use Move up and Move down to set store order. Click Remove to delete the field.
- Click Save. Field edits are not kept by the list autosave.
Choice fields (Multiple checkboxes, Radio buttons, Dropdown, Tag buttons, Color tags)
- Expand the field.
- Under Options, click Add option.
- For Multiple checkboxes, Radio buttons, Dropdown, and Tag buttons, type Option label.
- For Color tags, set Swatch color (default #cccccc) and optionally Name (optional, for cart). The store shows an empty colored swatch, not the name on the chip.
- Set that option’s price: Free, or Fixed amount, Percent of price, Per quantity, One-time fee, or Multiply price, then the amount.
- Repeat Add option for every choice. Use Remove on a row to drop it.
- For Tag buttons and Color tags, set Single choice or Multiple choice, and Tags per row (default 3 for Tag buttons, 6 for Color tags).
- For Tag buttons only, set Tag bg, Tag text, Selected bg, and Selected text.
- Click Save.
Priced single fields (Checkbox, Text, Text area, Number)
- Expand the field.
- Set the price dropdown to Free, or pick Fixed amount, Percent of price, Per quantity, One-time fee, or Multiply price and type the amount.
- For Text or Text area, fill Placeholder and Max length if you need them.
- For Number, fill Min, Max, and Step if you need them.
- Click Save.
File upload
- Add a field and set the type to File upload.
- Fill Field label, optional Help text, and Required if the shopper must attach a file.
- Fill Allowed types e.g. jpg,pdf as a comma-separated list, or leave it empty to allow any type that is not blocked (executable and script types are always blocked).
- Fill Max MB (default 5) and Max files (default 1).
- There is no price dropdown on File upload. The field is unpriced.
- Click Save.
- On the product page the shopper sees Drag a file here, or click to choose.
- After checkout, open the WooCommerce order. The original filename is on the line item. Companion 1.361.0 or higher adds a Download link next to that name. The downloaded file keeps the original filename. Files live in the store uploads folder, not in WooDonkey cloud.
Product add-on
- Add a field and set the type to Product.
- The Field label is the question the shopper sees (for example whether to add a related item).
- Under Products to add to the cart, click Add product.
- Search products… and pick one simple product.
- Set No discount, Percent off, or Amount off. If you pick a discount, type the number.
- Repeat Add product for more linked products. Each checked item becomes its own cart line.
- Read the warning on the field: Variable products cannot be added as an add-on. Pick a simple product. A variable product is skipped on the store and does not appear as a checkbox.
- Click Save.
Enable, duplicate, and delete a group
- On the group list, the switch labeled Enable turns the group on or off. That switch saves automatically. You do not click Save for it.
- Click the Duplicate icon to copy the group. The copy is saved at once. Its Group name (admin) becomes the old name plus (copy).
- Click the Delete icon. Confirm with Delete the add-on group “{name}”? The description says This removes the group and its fields from your products. This cannot be undone. Click Delete or Cancel.
What shoppers see
- Open a matching WooCommerce product on the store.
- Fields appear above Add to Cart, inside the Display style colors and radius.
- Original Price is the product price. Total Price updates as they choose. Companion 1.361.0 keeps One-time fee correct when they change quantity.
- Add to Cart, then check the cart and the order. Labels and prices from the fields are stored on the order line.
What to know before you start
- WooDonkey is the platform. Shoppers buy on your WooCommerce store.
- This screen has no tabs, no Create button, and no Draft / Published status. A group is either Enabled or Disabled.
- Group list Enable switches and Display style save automatically. Field and targeting edits save only when you click Save inside the group. Cancel discards those edits.
- Save stays disabled until Group name (admin) has text.
- A new group starts Enabled, Priority 10, Apply to All products, with no fields. A group with no fields does not render on the store.
- There is no shortcode. The companion plugin is required. Companion 1.361.0 or higher is required for order Download, live One-time fee with quantity, and skipping variable product add-ons.
- If Heading (shown to customers) is empty, the store shows no group title.
- There is no Import control on this screen.
- There is no show/hide logic between fields. Every field in an enabled matching group is visible.
- The Product field has no variation picker. Variable products are skipped on the store.
- File upload has no price. Uploads stay on your store. Executable and script file types are blocked even if you leave Allowed types empty.
- Fixed amount and Per quantity are the same amount per product unit in the cart. One-time fee is once per line, not per unit.
- If the standalone WooDonkey Smart Add-Ons plugin is active, native Add-Ons stand down.
- Add-Ons does not send email or SMS. Order details live on the WooCommerce order.
- Display style is global for every group. You cannot style one group differently from this screen.
Problems you may hit, and how to fix them
- No fields on the product page: Confirm the group is Enabled. Confirm Where it shows matches that product and that Exclusions do not exclude it. Confirm the group has at least one field and you clicked Save. Install the companion plugin. Deactivate the standalone WooDonkey Smart Add-Ons plugin if it is active. Purge WordPress cache and reload the product.
- You edited fields but the store still shows the old set: Click Save inside the group. List autosave does not keep field edits. Then wait for the companion to pick up the config (heartbeat is about ten minutes) or open the product in a private window after a cache purge.
- Field order on the store does not match the editor: Use Move up / Move down, then Save. The store sorts by that saved order.
- Two groups stack on one product: Both match Where it shows. Lower Priority shows first. Tighten Apply to or add an exclusion if you only wanted one group.
- Required field blocks Add to Cart: That is intended. The notice is “{label} is required.” Turn Required off, or tell the shopper to fill it.
- File upload is rejected: Check Allowed types e.g. jpg, pdf, Max MB, and Max files. Script and executable types are always blocked. Default Max MB is 5 if you left it empty.
- No Download link on the WooCommerce order: Update Companion to 1.361.0 or higher. The filename still appears on older companion versions. Confirm you can edit shop orders in WordPress.
- Linked product add-on is missing on the store: The Product field skips variable products and products that are not purchasable. Pick a simple, purchasable product, then Save.
- Total Price looks wrong when quantity is more than 1: Fixed amount and Per quantity both add per unit. One-time fee should stay once. Update Companion to 1.361.0 or higher so the live summary divides One-time fee by quantity correctly.
- Save will not click: Group name (admin) is empty. Fill it.
- Display style changed but groups did not: Display style is global. It always applies to every group. There is no per-group color control on this screen.
- New group button is black, Save is coral: That is the editor-open state. New group uses the black style while a group is open so Save stays the only coral action. Close the editor to return New group to coral.
