How to create a product bundle

WooDonkey Product Bundles lets you create product packages for your WooCommerce store. Shoppers buy these bundles on your store, while you manage them from your WooDonkey dashboard. The WooDonkey Companion plugin handles the storefront display and stock management.

What it is

Product Bundles is a native WooDonkey feature that allows you to sell multiple products together as a single item. You can create fixed-set bundles or allow customers to mix and match items from your defined slots. Bundles are managed within WooDonkey and appear as standard WooCommerce products on your storefront.

This tool is found under Advanced Tools in your WooDonkey sidebar. When you create a new bundle, it opens the WooCommerce product editor in WooDonkey, adding a dedicated Bundle tab for configuration. The WooDonkey Companion plugin on your WooCommerce store handles the shopper’s experience, including the Mix & Match picker, price displays, and child product stock management.

How it helps you

Merchants can easily create product kits or flexible mix-and-match offers without needing a separate bundling plugin for their WooCommerce store. This simplifies product management and offers new ways to package items. Shoppers benefit from a clear, single product offering with an upfront price, making their purchase decision straightforward.

What is included

  • Simple bundles: Offer a fixed set of products together as one item.
  • Mix & Match bundles: Let customers pick a specific number of items from product slots you define. You can set slots to include specific products, entire categories, or product tags.
  • Discount types: Apply discounts as a Percentage (%), a Fixed amount, or set a specific Set price for the bundle. For Simple bundles, a Set price can apply to the Whole bundle or Each product.
  • Bundle settings: Control how bundles behave. Defaults include marking the bundle out of stock if an included product is out of stock, showing only the bundle name and total price in the cart and email, using the bundle’s SKU for orders, automatic price rounding, and calculating shipping as one product. Coupons and other discounts are off by default.
  • Storefront display: Simple bundles show the bundle price and any save/discount pills. Mix & Match bundles feature an interactive picker, showing progress, original price, bundle price, and savings.
  • Child stock on purchase: When a bundle is purchased, the stock of its included child products is reduced in WooCommerce. This requires the WooDonkey Companion plugin to be installed on your store. If you already have it, you must download and install it again from WooDonkey to enable this behavior.
  • Out of stock behavior: Decide whether a bundle is marked out of stock (default), moved to draft, or left alone when one of its included products goes out of stock.
  • Coupon control: Bundles do not allow coupons by default. You can enable this in the bundle settings.

How to turn on and manage each capability

Open Bundles

  1. From your WooDonkey dashboard, click Advanced Tools in the sidebar.
  2. Click Bundles.
  3. The Bundles screen lists your bundles and a total count under the Bundles heading.

Create a Simple bundle

  1. From the Bundles screen, click New Bundle, then select Simple bundle from the dropdown.
  2. The WooCommerce product editor opens in WooDonkey. Fill in the standard product details like name and description.
  3. Click the Bundle tab.
  4. Under Products in this bundle, use Search products by name… to find and add products. Remember, Only simple products can be added.
  5. Adjust the quantity for each included product using the +/- buttons. You must Add at least 2 products to create a simple bundle.
  6. Choose a Discount type (Percentage (%), Fixed amount, or Set price) and enter a Value. If you choose Set price, you can also select Apply to: Whole bundle or Each product. The Bundle price will update live.
  7. Click Save to create your simple bundle. A Saved successfully toast will appear.

Create a Mix & Match bundle

  1. From the Bundles screen, click New Bundle, then select Mix & Match bundle from the dropdown.
  2. The WooCommerce product editor opens in WooDonkey. Fill in the standard product details like name and description.
  3. Click the Bundle tab.
  4. Enter the number for How many items the customer picks. This is the exact number of items a shopper must select.
  5. Click Add slot.
  6. For each slot, choose a Slot type: Specific products, Categories, or Tags. If you choose Specific products, use Search products… to add simple products to that slot.
  7. (Optional) Click Add exclusion and search for products to exclude them from any slot.
  8. Choose a Discount type (Percentage (%), Fixed amount, or Set price) and enter a Value.
  9. Click Save to create your Mix & Match bundle. A Saved successfully toast will appear.

Bundle settings

  1. From the Bundles screen, click the Settings button.
  2. The Bundle settings dialog opens.
  3. To change how bundles react to out-of-stock items, select an option from the When an included product is out of stock dropdown (default is Mark the bundle out of stock).
  4. To allow coupons on your bundles, turn on the Allow coupons on bundles switch.
  5. To customize the storefront appearance, adjust colors for Accent (Mix & Match picker) or Save pill – background/text under Storefront colors. You can also change Price text size and Price text weight.
  6. Click Save Changes. A Settings saved toast will appear.

What shoppers see

When shoppers view a Simple bundle on your WooCommerce store, they see the single bundle price and any save or discount pills. For a Mix & Match bundle, they see an interactive picker where they must select exactly the number of items you defined. The picker shows their progress, the original price, the bundle price, and how much they save. Once the correct number of items is selected, they can add the bundle to their cart.

What to know before you start

  • Bundles are real WooCommerce simple products with a dedicated Bundle tab in the product editor.
  • Only simple WooCommerce products can be added as children to any bundle type. Variable products cannot be included.
  • Nested bundles (bundles inside other bundles) are not supported.
  • Mix & Match slots that use Categories or Tags will load up to 200 products per slot.
  • If a Mix & Match slot includes categories or tags, variable products within those taxonomies will be skipped and not shown to the shopper.
  • Coupons and other discounts do not apply to bundles until you enable the matching switches in Bundle settings.
  • Simple bundles are a fixed set of products. There are no optional extras within a Simple bundle.
  • Mix & Match bundles require shoppers to pick exactly N items. There are no optional extras.
  • The Add-to-Cart Popup and Popups and Badges tools (also in Advanced Tools) do not automatically show bundle composition summaries or place bundle badges on catalog grids. These are separate tools.
  • Bundles are excluded from the WooDonkey product catalog mirror.

Problems you may hit, and how to fix them

  • A Mix & Match bundle will not add to the cart on the storefront. The shopper must select exactly the number of items specified by How many items the customer picks for the bundle to be added to the cart.
  • I cannot find a variable product when searching to add it to a bundle. Only simple WooCommerce products can be added as children to bundles. Variable products are not supported.
  • My bundle is still for sale even though one of its included products is out of stock. Check your Bundle settings. The When an included product is out of stock setting might be set to Do nothing or Move the bundle to draft instead of Mark the bundle out of stock (the default).
  • When a bundle is purchased, the stock for its included child products is not reduced. The child-stock-on-purchase behavior is handled by the WooDonkey Companion plugin. If you already have the Companion plugin installed on your store, you must download it again from WooDonkey and install it on your store to enable this feature.
  • A coupon is not applying to my bundle. By default, coupons do not apply to bundles. Go to Bundle settings and turn on the Allow coupons on bundles switch.
  • I am trying to add a bundle product as a child to another bundle, but it is not appearing in the search. Nested bundles are not supported. You cannot add a bundle product as a child to another bundle.
  • My Mix & Match slot set to a category is missing a product that I know is in that category. Mix & Match slots skip variable products. Only simple products from a category or tag will be displayed in the picker.
  • The Bundles list is empty, showing No bundles yet. Click New Bundle, then Simple bundle or Mix & Match bundle.
